| Aberdeen Grampian
Aberdeen is the capital of the Grampian
Highland and is situated on Scotland’s East Coast
where the mouth of the river Dee and Don meet the North
Sea. There’s an impressive stretch of coastline
stretching out around three kilometres providing fine
sandy beaches, acting as a great contrast to the many
colourful blooms around the city’s parks, and the lush
green of the surrounding countryside.
Now often referred to as the Global
Energy City thanks to its strong links with the oil
industry, Aberdeen is best known as the Granite City and
with good reason. This hardy stone has been quarried
here for centuries and gives the city much of its great
character. Particular fine examples of the granite
architecture include Marischal College and the Citadel
at Castlegate.
Also as a university town Aberdeen
certainly has a vibrant and youthful feel to it, so you
can be sure of finding plenty to see and do here. It a
classic example of a place that has effortlessly managed
to combine the best of the old and new to appeal to all
ages. The entertainment and nightlife on offer makes a
visit to Aberdeen worthwhile for that reason alone.
There’s also a strong culture scene and numerous
shopping opportunities.
