| Chippenham Wiltshire
Located on the southern edge of the
Cotswolds, in the county of Wiltshire, Chippenham dates back
to Saxon times. From an ancient market town it underwent
considerable growth as a popular coaching stop off point for
people travelling between London and Bristol, prior to the
popularity of the railways. In fact one of the area’s
greatest assets today is that it is so easy to get to from a
wide variety of different places. Chippenham is a convenient
train ride away from London, taking around one hour and twenty
minutes, as well as being more or less equidistant from Bath,
Bristol and Swindon.
To further add to its appeal some
outstandingly beautiful countryside such as the North Downs,
as well as picturesque little villages such as Lacock and
Castle Combe surround Chippenham. Such diversity makes it the
perfect place to base yourself for a holiday or a romantic
weekend away, with plenty of things to see and do right on
your doorstep.
Historically life here was centred in and
around the market place in much the same way as it is today.
Alongside the more modern attractions you can still see sights
such as the lovely St Andrew’s Church and the famous
Buttercross. It is also worth hunting down St Mary Street with
its delightful 16th and 17th
century houses.
