Eastbourne Sussex Situated in a particularly pleasant spot on the South Coast, equidistant from Hastings to the east and Brighton to the west, is the town of Eastbourne. As one of England’s most well loved seaside resorts, Eastbourne still manages to retain much of its original charm, with traditional pastimes evident at every turn. Like a stroll around Princes Park and a trip to the park’s boating lake where you can hire pedaloes and rowing boats, or simply feed the swans. Whilst along the Grand Parade there’s a beautiful bandstand where between June and September you can hear performances from a selection of military bands. Alternatively, get to know the area quickly and easily by joining one of the open top bus tours that allow you to jump on and off as the fancy takes you so you can investigate sights of interest along the way. Likewise the quaint Dotto trains will transport you along the length of the seafront if you’re not up to a stroll. Sporting types will find plenty to occupy their time with four golf courses to choose from, a selection of bowling greens, a modern sports park and a David Lloyd Centre, as well as opportunities for: tennis, squash, windsurfing, canoeing, riding and rambling. The prime attraction for many though remains the sandy beaches. The beaches at Eastbourne have won several awards and are especially child-friendly thanks to a colour coded wristband system. There’s also the advantage of being able to hire beach huts and a stunning Heritage Coastline to explore, the highlight of which is the impressive sight of Beachy Head. Visitors can also venture out by boat to the Beachy Head Lighthouse in traditional locally made boats, or go further a field inland and discover the delights of the nearby Sussex Downs.
