Guildford Surrey
Guildford is the county town of Surrey
and is situated south west of London along the A3, on
the ridge of the North Downs. The charm of its High
Street hints at Guildford’s past with its cobbled
street and historic buildings, including the Guildhall
with its glorious gilded clock protruding out over the
street.
Guildford is well known for its modern
day Cathedral that proudly stands high above the centre
of Guildford, showing off its fine craftsmanship to best
effect. Also worthy of a visit though is its Norman
Castle Keep, the Guildford Museum, Abbots Hospital and
the Medieval Undercroft.
Guildford enjoys an excellent social
life with plenty to keep both its residents and visitors
entertained. Choose between theatrical performances at
either the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, or local productions
at the Electric Theatre, so called in honour of its
converted power station location. For musical concerts
you need to check out the programme at the Guildford
Civic Centre, where you find concerts by the Guildford
Philharmonic Orchestra, alongside modern music and
comedy shows.
