| Milton Keynes Buckinghamshire Milton Keynes
is best known for being a new town that was
specifically planned out when the Ministry of Housing
and Local Government requested the building of a new
town back in 1967, to house the predicted increasing
population. With more and more people moving out from
London, this largely agricultural area made up of a
string of small villages, was deemed the ideal place.
Archaeological
digging on a grand scale took place when the town
planning preparations were set in place. Consequently
many interesting discoveries were made in the area,
including the remains of an ichthyosaur, an extinct
family of marine reptiles resembling the dolphin,
dated as being around 150 million years old no less.
There’s also evidence to suggest that the location
where Milton Keynes now stands was in fact inhabited
back as far as 6000BC.
Since the recent building of the
Milton Keynes development the population has increased
more than threefold making it a real success story,
providing excellent accommodation and transport and an
area with plenty of jobs and facilities that continue
to attract people to the area.
