| Salisbury Wiltshire
The medieval city of Salisbury is best
known for its glorious cathedral and close proximity to
Stonehenge. It’s the kind of place that holds plenty
of attraction with visitors, yet it’s large enough to
never seem over run with tourists, even during the
height of the summer months.
The cathedral aside, the sites to see
in Salisbury include St Thomas’s Church with its
impressive judgement-day paintings, the elegant Queen
Anne Architecture of Mompesson House, the fascinating
insight into local history in the atmospheric setting of
The Medieval Hall with its ‘Discover Salisbury’
presentation and last but by no mean least, the vast
Iron Age hill fort of Old Sarum, for wonderful views of
the fort itself and the surrounding countryside.
The other thing that Salisbury is
famous for is its strong tradition of having a
twice-weekly market. Markets have been held here for
over 600 years and sell a whole host of different goods.
The atmosphere alone makes them well worth a trip and
you never know you may also spot a bargain while you’re
there.
With so much to see and do in the
city, Salisbury is a popular and convenient stop off
point for visitors touring the local area, as well as
those looking for somewhere to stay en route to Devon and
Cornwall
