Wolverhampton West Midlands

Situated in the West Midlands, around 14 miles northwest of Birmingham, lies Wolverhampton. The area has in recent years received city status and, with that newfound status, is growing a thriving new cosmopolitan culture. Alongside its original market that has been in business for some seven centuries, there are an increasing number of modern shops, with trendy bars and restaurants to match. This isn’t surprising when you learn that it has one of the country’s largest universities and hence a large student population looking for lively places to enjoy.

The best way to get acquainted with the area is to follow one of the local city trails, details of which you can pick up at the local tourist office. These take you through the oldest parts of the city, right up to modern day attractions. Historic sights worth looking out for include St John’s church dating back to 1760 and St Peter’s Church from the 15th century, which stands on the site of a 10th century monastery. Another way to get around is by canal boat from the Broad Street Basin, a journey that provides some of the more scenic views, thanks to the many parks and a local nature reserve that you’ll go through on route.
